Art photography - Blue Roof - Modra strecha
There will be an exhibition of the renowned Slovak photographer and artist Prof. Milota Havrankova at the Slovak Embassy in London from 17th June to 16th July. If you are interested in this exhibition or Milota Havrankova's work please contact events [at] sbbc [dot] org [dot] uk.
The work of Milota Havrankova always stood out from the mainstream Slovak photography. Unlike her colleagues who have been enforcing more direct photography - black and white documentary or conceptual photography, Milota Havrankova’s interest lies in experimenting, choice of a theme and exploration of visual forms. The most important asset of her work is an ongoing interest in grasping the photographic medium, which is constantly changing in its creative and technical process.

Milota Havrankova’s work has extended the boundaries of the visual photography in Slovakia. Her artistic manipulation with photographs and unconventional treatment of the film negative, are only one of the examples that show her uniqueness in contemporary art photography. She has been combining several art disciplines, from photography to object, music, experimental film, literature and illustration, as well as applied arts.
Milota Havrankova’s knowledge of surrealist photography and film as well as pop-art and op-art traditions has formed an important foundation for her work, which is dominated by subjective photography. Arising from her intuition, her photographs form a visual journal of her life and feelings. Her curiosity for the new leaves uncountable possibilities for her explorations, which are in the process of photography contained in multimedia.

Milota Havrankova's works may be narrated or interpreted as a number of photographic entities, which over 40 years have formed an extensive body of her work. Constant change is her main driving force – just when we get accustomed to her style in a certain period she changes direction through a different means of expression. Despite different artistic approaches, the retrospective of Milota Havrankova’s work forms a homogenous body due to the compact development of individual motifs and following a single thematic line.
Her themes have mainly arisen from opinions about the creative process, which is tied to her daily life. Milota Havrankova interprets relationships and life situations but the main continual theme direction is formed by narrative from her own life.
