Volkswagen Slovakia to reduce production in April

Volkswagen AG has said that it will reduce production at its Slovakian facility for eight days next month.
The German car manufacturer had previously stopped activity at the Volkswagen Slovakia plant in Bratislava for a week in February.
However, production at the assembly plant restarted on February 16th with all staff reinstated, although at the time unions said further breaks could not be ruled out.
The company has now said that another week-long break will take place between April 6th and 9th, and then from April 13th to 16th.
Employees are to receive full pay during this period as the company looks for ways to cope with decreased demand during the downturn.
Volkswagen Slovakia is one of the country''s largest exporters, accounting for 15 per cent of total exports.
The Slovakian government has been keen to champion the role of the automobile industry and called for EU-wide collaboration to support the industry through the downturn.
