Polish gas firm plans Slovakian pipeline

Slovakia could soon be home to a gas pipeline built by Poland''s PGNiG.
The firm intends to create a connection through Slovakia to reach a gas hub in Baumgarten, in Austria, according to Reuters.
PGNiG''s head of company strategy, Tomasz Karas, told a seminar that the line would be capable of carrying one billion cubic metres of gas.
"We are planning a connection through Slovakia to Baumgarten. It is one of our plans to diversify supply routes to Poland," he said.
However, he added that planning for the pipeline was still very much in its infancy.
Slovakia already has a number of gas pipes running through the country and was the first to receive Russian gas via Ukraine in January after the standoff between the eastern European countries.
The country imported 6.268 billion cubic metres of natural gas in 2007 and exported 180 million cubic metres, according to estimates.
