Slovakia is to be one of the destinations on the 2009 World Poker Tour (WPT).

WPT Slovakia is a €4,000 (£3,538) event and will be taking place from August 31st until September 5th in Bratislava, Slovakia.

It will be part of the Central European Summer Poker Championship running from August 26th.

The tournament was the fifth additional event to be announced by the WPT for the 2009 season.

Steve Lipscomb, chief executive officer at WPT, said that the brand is looking to grow.

"Our goal is to bring value to our partners and WPTE shareholders as we expand our global footprint," he explained.

WTP announced a number of new destinations for the tour earlier in the year.

Non-televised stops are due to take place in Marrakech from October 12th to the 19th, Barcelona from June 24 to the 30th and Venice beginning today (May 7th) until May 10th.

The WTP organisers stated that visitors to Slovakia for the autumn event will be able to enjoy special hotel discounts.
