Young people in Slovakia are basing their career choices on how much they enjoy an area of work, new research has shown.

Findings from the study by global market research firm GfK revealed that 75 per cent of respondents stated that additional benefits are also important in influencing a choice of profession.

Other factors include how well paid a job is and what sort of opportunities for progression are available.

GfK''s study showed that young Slovaks believe that the most interesting jobs are as lawyers, scientists, managers, IT workers or in the advertising and marketing sector.

These preferences were prevalent among all those polled - regardless of degree choice or current employment.

In a statement GfK said: "Young girls tend to prefer jobs such as HR specialist, veterinary doctor, pharmacist, journalist and social worker.

"On the other hand, young men in Slovakia seem to have more preference for the profession of a film maker or film director, TV or radio host/presenter, civil servant, policeman or a soldier."
