Hostels 'a trendy alternative'

Hostels are increasingly being seen as a trendy alternative to hotels and other forms of holiday accommodation as more young families choose to stay in one, it has been claimed.

Johan Kruger, head of PR and communications at Hostelling International, said that rather than being large dormitories, nowadays people can book a single or double family room in which to sleep at a hostel.

"[Staying in a hostel] gives you freedom and you have self-catering facilities in hostels which are always an option if you want to keep your costs down," he added.

Mr Kruger went on to note that the social aspect was also an important draw of hostels and that it was not only young backpackers who could meet new people while on holiday.

Britons planning to head to Slovakia for this year''s Bazant Pohoda - July 16th to 18th at Trencin airport - may find that staying in a hostel is a more comfortable choice than pitching a tent.

Those attending the event can expect to enjoy performances from Basement Jaxx and Klaxons.
