Slovakian minister new vice-chairman of EBRD

Slovakian finance minister Jan Pociatek has been appointed as one of the vice-chairmen of the governing board for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Mr Pociatek was appointed to the post at the EBRD''s annual meeting held in London on May 15th and 16th.
He is the first Slovakian finance minister to hold the position and will be in office until May 15th 2010, which is the date of next year''s EBRD annual meeting.
The finance ministry told Radio Slovakia that although the appointment is mainly procedural, it will be of "key importance for the further development of Slovakia" as a new economic strategy is to be introduced in the state by the EBRD from 2011.
Slovakia has been a member of the EBRD since 1993.
As of January 1st 2008, the EBRD had implemented 74 projects in Slovakia with a total project value of 3.5 billion (£3 billion).
The initiatives ranged from providing infrastructure support to financing small-to-medium sized enterprises.
