Slovakia and Serbia could soon have stronger trade and business links following talks between the two countries'' governments.

Serbian mining and energy minister Petar Skundric made a two-day visit to Slovakia and met with the country''s economy minister Lubomir Jahnatek.

The two men discussed economic cooperation with the potential for energy sector collaboration one of the major points of interest.

Reports suggest that Slovakian companies are eyeing up opportunities in the Serbian energy sector and see potential business in the rebuilding of Serbia''s infrastructure and economy.

Serbia is currently seeking European Union membership and the country''s president Boris Tadic has suggested that this process will quicken once the current worldwide economic crisis has begun to calm.

Earlier this month, the European Investment Bank opened a regional office in Serbia and loaned €250 million to the National Bank of Serbia, in order to help businesses in the country survive the economic downturn.
