Slovakian supermarket chain appoints new chief executive

Supermarket group Ahold has appointed a new chief executive to run its Albert/Hypernova subsidiary in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
Jan van Dam will become the new president and chief executive of the firm, taking over from Johan Boeijenga, who has worked at Ahold since 1988.
Mr van Dam is currently responsible for managing Etos, Ahold''s drugstore business in The Netherlands.
He previously worked as a general manager at Gall & Gall, Ahold''s liquor store subsidiary in The Netherlands as well as working in a variety of positions with supermarket Albert Heijn.
Etos was named as the best drugstore in The Netherlands during both 2008 and 2009 while under the management of Mr van Dam.
Jan Willem Koch, a unit manager of perishables at Albert Heijn, will take over at Etos after Mr van Dam takes charge of Ahold''s businesses in Slovakia.
In other supermarket news Tesco is planning on investing $38.9 million (£24.1 million) into its Slovakian presence and will open 25 new stores in the country during 2009.
