Slovakia's EU membership 'a success'

Prime minister Robert Fico has described the five years Slovakia has spent as a member of the European Union (EU) as largely positive.
In an interview with New Europe, Mr Fico said that the Slovakian government''s hard work has been responsible for making the most of the EU membership awarded to the state.
The prime minister explained that Slovakia has secured the eastern border it shares with Ukraine and enforced the approval of the Lisbon Treaty in Slovakia.
"We can say that Slovakia has empowered its overall political position in the EU as we can see for instance on the position of the Slovak foreign minister," he explained to the news provider.
Jan Kubis, the previous foreign minister, accepted the position as the head of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe while the current post holder Miroslav Lajcak has worked as a special EU envoy on behalf of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Mr Lajcak became Slovakia''s foreign minister in January 2009.
