The Slovakian town of Levoca has been added to the country''s entry in the World Heritage List.

A number of additions were made to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation''s (Unesco) list with the Slovakian entry amended to Levoca, Spissky and the Associated Cultural Monument.

The other new entries made by the World Heritage Committee included the Sacred City of Caral-Supe, Peru and Mount Wutai in China.

Miroslav Vilkovsky, Levoca''s mayor, told TASR: "There is a lot of work that [has] gone into this. The proposal was submitted in February 2007. Being on the list will help us in the development of tourism. We will use the logo of Unesco actively."

He added that changes are going to be made to the town to make it more tourist-friendly and to encourage visitors to stay for longer.

Levoca was built during the 13th and 14th centuries and St James'' church, constructed during that period, still stands.

The town is also known for the work of Master Pavol, a renowned medieval sculptor.
