Slovakian president visits Serbia

Slovakian president Ivan Gasparovic has visited Serbia to discuss business cooperation between the two states.
Mr Gasparovic attended a private dinner with Boris Tadic, Serbian president, which followed the culmination of the 16th summit of the Central European Presidents, held in the Serb city of Novi Sad.
During the meeting President Tadic emphasised the strength of relations between the two states and the friendship between himself and his Slovakian counterpart.
He said: "There is a lot of understanding between us. Slovakia supports Serbia."
Mr Tadic added that Slovakia''s membership in the European Union and Nato is important for Serbia, given the latter''s ambition to join the organisations.
He also commented that if Serbia became a member of the EU, it would help bring greater political stability to south-east and central Europe.
President Gasparovic added: "Along with Croatia and other states of the Western Balkans, Serbia is a country that belongs in Europe."
The Slovakian premier was recently re-elected for a second five-year term.
