Smer-SD could have won election, new report shows

A new report revealed that the Smer-Social Democracy (Smer-SD) party would have won if a parliamentary election had taken place during mid-June.
The poll from Polis Slovakia showed that the party, which is the largest within the coalition government led by prime minister Robert Fico, would have won with 44.8 per cent of the vote.
A sample of 1,777 respondents was taken over a ten-day period in June and showed that the turnout would have stood at 65.1 per cent.
Other results from the study showed that the Christian Union-Democratic Party (SDKU-DS) would have received 17.5 per cent of the vote and the Christian Democrats (KDH) would have had a 10.8 per cent share.
The Hungarian Coalition party would have won 5.7 per cent, the poll showed.
Smer-SD party won five seats with 32 per cent of the vote during the recent European Parliament elections.
The SDKU-DS claimed two seats by winning 16.98 per cent of the vote and the Hungarian Coalition Party and the KDH won two seats each.
