Hungarian budget airliner Wizz Air is to enter the Slovakian marketplace in the autumn.

The company is opening a new flight route between the Slovakian capital of Bratislava and Rome, which will run four times a week from September 20th.

John Stephenson, executive vice-president at Wizz Air, said: "Slovakia has always been on our horizon. We believe that now is the time to step up and benefit from the arising opportunities on the market. This is the first step [with] many more to follow."

He added that tourists will now be able to benefit from the airline''s low fares and high customer service standards on its Airbus A320 aircraft.

Flights can be booked from the company''s website or call centre with one-way journeys starting from €19.99 (£17.11).

A court in Slovakia recently provided airline SkyEurope with creditor protection while the company''s management restructured the business''s financial infrastructure.

The company is hoping that the changes will make it a more attractive potential investment.
