New Slovakian justice minister appointed

Viera Petrikova has been appointed as the new minister of justice in Slovakia.
The appointment follows the announcement that the previous post holder, Stefan Harabin, has been chosen as the chairman of the state''s Supreme Court following a vote by the Judicial Council.
During a ceremony to mark the arrival of the new minister, president Ivan Gasparovic told TASR that the role is important as "decisions made by the Justice Ministry and courts are often the most accurate criterion of evaluating democracy in a country".
He added that Ms Petrovika will only hold the post for a short time because of the impending general election so no "massive reforms" are expected.
Ms Petrikova said: "I''d like to contribute to boosting trust in the judiciary and law enforceability so that every citizen of this country can enforce their rights in an appropriate period of time."
The new minister previously worked as the vice-chair of the Judicial Council.
