Slovakia has been placed in 46th position in a study analysing trade enablement in economies across the world.

The Global Enabling Trade Report 2009, from the World Economic Forum, ranked Slovakia highly in terms of transport and communications infrastructure, as well as border administration, placing the country in 33rd and 40th position respectively.

In its study, the forum investigated policies, services and institutions enabling trade in 121 national economies throughout the world.

Slovakia''s business environment also performed well, ranking 51st overall.

However, in terms of market access, Slovakia finished much further down the list, in 93rd place.

Scott Davis, chairman and chief executive of UPS, said that governments should use the information in the report to influence their policy.

"This report can be very helpful for governments and regulators to identify bottlenecks in the global supply chain and analyse how those can [be] best addressed," he added.

Far Eastern economies, namely Singapore and Hong Kong, occupied the top two spots in the report, with the rest of the top ten made up of European countries, with the exception of Canada which was ranked sixth.
