Holiday time approaches for kids

The school summer holidays are fast approaching which may mean parents wish to get their skates on and book a break for their family.

Chris Keates, general secretary of the teaching union NASUWT, said that the group was unable to support parents taking their kids out of school to go away - which may mean that mums and dads hoping to plan a holiday in Slovakia may wish to make sure it is scheduled for over the summer or at Christmas.

He added that education should be viewed as a priority by parents and everyone else in society.

"The problem really comes from the high cost of holidays outside term time. The responsibility lies with the travel agents who set the seasons and the prices," Mr Keates noted.

His comments come after mumsnet published a survey which revealed that more than half (56 per cent) of the parents surveyed said they would take their children out of school during term time for a beach or relaxing holiday.
