Britons 'are holiday mad'

Britons have been labelled ''holiday mad'' after it was revealed that a total of 56 million trips had been arranged to take place over the course of the summer - which may inspire people to get their skates on and book a break in Slovakia.

According to Sainsbury''s Travel Insurance, some £43.86 billion will be spent on all of these getaway plans.

And while one in three people stated they were planning to take their break inside the eurozone, it appears that the recession is causing more individuals to go on holiday, rather than fewer.

Indeed, it was revealed that 670,000 people are planning to take more vacations than usual in order to escape the credit crunch.

Sam Marrs, Sainsbury''s Travel Insurance manager, said: "Despite tough economic conditions, it would appear that rather than sacrificing our holidays, we Britons may even be taking more breaks in a bid to put all the credit crunch doom and gloom behind us."

However, holidaymakers may wish to keep a tight hold on their finances when they go away, after M&S Money revealed that UK families could save £135 of their spending money by learning to tip correctly.
