Business travel 'still needed by firms'

British businesses will still allow their employees to fly to different countries in order to keep customer relationships running, it has been claimed.

The Guild of Travel Management Companies (GTMC) said that business travel is "essential" and for companies where flying to meet clients is a necessity, the only thing they can do is adopt more environmentally-friendly practices.

Saving money on business trips may also be important. According to a recent survey by the Association of Corporate Travel Executives, almost half of respondents claim they have downgraded the class of travel.

Nearly two-thirds of people said they now book their flights further in advance.

"It is essential you''ve got to travel, all you can do is travel as greenly as you can," stated chief executive of the GTMC Philip Carlisle.

Business travellers who fly into Budapest Airport can now take a direct coach to Slovakia thanks to Hungarian airline Malev.

This could mean that firms only need to pay for one flight, rather than for another to Bratislava Airport, which could also lower their carbon footprint.ADNFCR-2242-ID-19278834-ADNFCR
