Two-fifths of families in the UK have yet to book their holiday for this year, with a third saying their getaway plans will depend on their finances, new research has found.

A study by Tesco Travel Money revealed that one in six parents admitted to being willing to take their children out of school if it meant securing a cheaper break.

And 57 per cent of those polled claimed that they found getting a last-minute deal to be just as good as planning a getaway in advance, which may inspire some Britons to look into booking a last-minute holiday in Slovakia.

Of those planning to get a break at the last-minute, 47 per cent said they hoped this would secure them a better deal and many people are thought to be taking this action in order to escape the miserable UK summer weather.

Research by Santander Cards recently revealed that 84 per cent of Britons still plan to travel this year.
