Visitors to Slovakia 'should invest in new SIM'

Britons planning a break overseas - which may include a holiday in Slovakia - should invest in an international SIM card to use in their phones, one sector commentator has suggested.

Tom Newton, a spokesperson for mobile phone comparison site Recombu.com, said that the device was just as important an item to pack into luggage as travel insurance, sun lotion and tea bags.

"For a one-off fee you can make low cost calls to numbers back home, or if someone calls you, it won''t cost you an arm and a leg to receive it," he explained.

And Mr Newton added that phone users could also consider calling their network to ask about an international roaming package, which they may be able to sign up to on a temporary basis, allowing them to access their voicemail and receive calls at a reduced rate.

Such advice may prove useful after uSwitch.com revealed 66 per cent of mobile phone users risk high overseas charges just by switching their phone on.
