Why not to use debit cards abroad

Britons planning a break in Slovakia, or any other destination abroad, have been advised not to use their debit cards as a method of payment while they are overseas.

According to Caxton fx, there are a number of reasons for not using such a form of payment while overseas, including the fact that it incurs expensive withdrawal cash fees, typically of £3 per transaction.

Similarly, Britons are likely to fork out an additional £1.50 to £2 every time they pay for goods on their card, while there may also be a high loading fee of some 2.75 per cent.

Meanwhile, the group warns that Britons may risk having their debit cards blocked when they are abroad, even if their provider has been notified about the trip.

And should a holidaymaker lose their card, they are unlikely to receive a replacement to cover their getaway spending.

In related news, the pound is regaining strength against the euro, according to European Central Bank, which may be welcome information for those planning a trip to Slovakia.
