Camping appeared to have seen a resurgence in popularity over the past few months, it has been stated, which may mean Britons should consider packing their sleeping bags and pitching a tent in Slovakia.

Lucy Ace, of Take the Family, said more people were turning to camping as a getaway option as the recession continued to put a strain on their budgets.

"We have seen that during harder times the majority of families don''t give up their holiday but they do often reduce their budgets and do different things," she added.

Ms Ace said that camping was an activity the whole family could enjoy, as there was something "very exciting" about sleeping under canvas, while campers could get to know their neighbours and kids could enjoy more time playing outdoors.

A camping trip in Slovakia near to the Tatras Mountains could prove even more exciting, with the chance for visitors to spot bears.
