Companies must ensure that their travel policies are flexible, one sector commentator has claimed, in news which may interest firms planning trips to do business in Slovakia.

Norman Gage, director of business travel at Advantage, said that simply switching to economy seating may not always be a viable way to keep budgets down, as an employee may need to leave the airport quickly to get to an important meeting.

Due to this, flexibility within the travel agenda was required, he added.

"You''ve also got the aggravation of that travel and are you going to be at that meeting on time?" he explained.

Mr Gage noted that a travel policy should take all of these things into consideration as well as trying to save the company money.

His comments come after Barclaycard Commercial found that 40 per cent of small UK firms'' employees claim that they do not follow a business travel policy.
